Our Progress: Month 10

Just when we thought things couldn’t get busier…

October was our first month living debt free.  The last 1,000 towards our debt came out of our October budget and as of October 3rd, 2008, we were *officially* debt free.

Now what?!

Well, we didn’t stop working.  We didn’t change much at all.  All that money that was going towards debt was now ours to keep!

The only thing we agreed to increase was our grocery budget.  We now spend a whopping $125 a week to feed, bathe, shave, wipe, etc a family of 6.5.

For the month of October I averaged 65 hours of work a week.  I cut back my hours at Wegmans to Mon, Wed, Fri, Sat.  And they scheduled me, for the most part for Mon, Wed, Fri, Sat.  Concert Tech got busier too with system support, routers, and special projects.  And because I just wasn’t buys enough, I also started a twitter page for Concert, a twitter page for MBC Loudoun, and a blog for MBC Loudoun.

We did get to celebrate our new freedom on two occasions.  Specifically for the kids, we took them to Great Country Farm and had a grand time.  It was a little too warm to feel like fall, but it was much fun.  Then we celebrated with a Debt Free Debt Free Party that our parents put together.  We had friends and family galore – most of our biggest supporters.

You might have heard about our close call with the van.  We thought our debt free days would be short lived, but God provided once again, and we escaped catastrophe.

I have had the good intentions to start a blog series to talk about all the specifics we did to get out of debt, but there’s been no time!  I will get to it though.

As for our baby step progress, we have moved on to baby step # 3!  We now have $2,000 in savings and $0 debt!!!

    I like the flaming white bird on the blue background for your MBC Loudoun blog, but what does it mean?

    @Matt lol..um, well, it’s a reference to 4th John 1:4 “A phoenix is a righteous looking bird”
    actually it’s just a default template that we’re using until they provide a graphic they want to use

    Hey Nate!!

    I haven’t checked in on you in a while. Glad to see it’s still going well and that you guys are making further progress.

    And also happy that you’ll be spending more time with the lovey now that other good things have ended.

    Take care & God bless
    Francois
