Promises

What I heard from Obama’s speech at the DNC: bold, well-meaning promises that he cannot fulfill.

The biggest problem I have with the Democratic platform is the concept that Government is the answer and that the individual American is too stupid, lazy, poor, tired, weak to take care of themselves.

The promises that Barack Obama made are not fulfilled by Governemt.  They are fulfilled by grassroots individuals, teams, companies, and churches that care enough and are not limited by politics and a four year term.

    wholeheartedly agree with you

I agree. Good post. Now, the Republican party needs to get back to it’s roots and be firm on fiscal conservatism. One think I like about McCain is that he has a proven history of stopping pork-barrel spending.

I could not agree with you more in your statement that “Government is not the answer” to these problems. The biggest problem that I see is that when government tries to be the answer to these problems it seldom lifts people up but instead keeps people where they are. Welfare, for example, is built in such a way that people become so dependent on it they find it safer to stay put than to risk trying to move-up.

I do think that its reasonable for the government to offer some sort of “safety net” as a temporary solution for those in a tough spot, but not to maintain and grow a welfare state.

I too heard a lot of “free everything, for everyone” talk last night from Mr. Obama and that was disappointing.

I’m glad to hear you got to watch it though.

Finally….someone who can see through Obama…

I’m with ya bud. Waaaaay too many people looking to the government to solve everything.

What I find funny is that at least one candidate every year makes these *kind* of promises, that are just something they cannot deliver on. But Obama, being a good speaker, with the charisma he’s got…people are swooning instead of thinking it through.

@ReneeAnn I’ll be watching closely what the Republican party is saying too–along with the rest of you.

@Brian Ayers I agree most government programs, while well-intentioned, take the legs out from people and because of human nature people rely on these systems because “they deserve it” or some other careless reason.

@Sharon lol! i guess you’ve been frustrated too with the “pied piper” abilities of Obama

@Chad Wright absolutely. i’m sure as a pastor and small business owner you experience first hand the ability of individuals, teams, companies, and churches to accomplish longer lasting changes for the good
