Long Sermon Titles Are Awesome

John Piper preached “How To Deal With The Guilt of Sexual Failure for the Glory of Christ and His Global Cause” at the Passion Conference last year.  On iTunes, someone who didn’t know better said “with a title like that, it must be an emo song.”

The truth is, it can turn into an “emo” situation and and “emo” life if you do not deal with it as Pastor Piper suggests implores.  This may move my material from G to PG, but it’s an important matter.  I could easily let the fact that I had premarital sex, or that I’ve struggled with pornography, or that I am tempted to lust, ruin me.  The guilt is overbearing at times.  But praise God, he forgives and redeems and heals.  I will not surrender my global impact to guilt.  I commit myself to sexual purity for the sake of my wife and my marriage, for the sake of my children and their marriages, for the sake of single mothers and “fatherless” children, for the sake of men who are tempted to let failure and guilt condemn them to live a life of mediocrity, all to the glory of Christ.
