Our Progress: Month 6
A full six months has passed since we started this intense journey to be debt free. That is 1/2 year or 182 days or 4368 hours. To be honest, I’m fighting a bout of apathy, and getting myself to sit down and write anything is like [insert something really hard to do here].
I’m opening my calendar to give you a quick recap of the month:
- I worked approximately 80 hours at Wegmans in June.
- We celebrated Father’s Day
- I went to a midwife appointment and got to hear the baby’s heartbeat
- We celebrated Christina’s and my and a whole bunch of other birthdays
- We taught our last Kindergarten class at church until the fall
In regards to finances and budget and debt:
- We were able to buy Christina about $500 worth of much needed (maternity) clothes
- Wegmans gave their employees 10% off gift cards to help with groceries
- We got just a little sloppy with eating out on grocery shopping nights. It all came from our grocery budget and we we didn’t go over budget, but we could have made the money go a little farther. We stuck to Costco pizza’s and hot dogs though.
- Still managing to stay within budget on gas, despite rising gas prices
- We paid our debt down by $3,000 this month, ending June with a total of $8,703.65 left on our last, lonely credit card.
If we can continue to pay $2,000 each month towards debt, we will be done by mid-October. This Sunday begins our 100 day count-down. Be sure to follow along closely, because that number could decrease quickly. If you don’t already, follow along on twitter (aka my mini blog). If you don’t have twitter, you can subscribe to the feed just like this blog and catch all the excitement (hopefully).

Have you ever had that nagging feeling that there was something more to do with your life? I don’t remember exactly when it started for me...

Well done Nate!!

Btw. do you know yet if it was a guy heartbeat or a gal heartbeat?
@francois the countdown is going to be exciting! doing this fast is the only way to do it!
we haven’t found out if it is a boy or girl, and i believe we are going to wait and be surprised
Dude, very cool. Very impressive.
We had a party, invited all our friends and melted our credit cards and made them into magnets.
Take 3 months to serve the Lord internationally.
Volunteer somewhere during the day on a weekday, every week.
