Bike-less

Remember this guy?  He has gone on to a new owner, and I’ll miss him.

I bought this bike for two reasons:

  1. To let Christina have a car a few days a week
  2. To save money on gas

The first situation was taken care of nicely until winter.

The second situation never got taken care of.  The problem was, the bike and all the accessories was just shy of $1000, which i paid on credit.  And we were still driving.  It would take about six months for us to spend $1000 in gas, and I spent that in 2 weeks–with money I didn’t have.  This was a few months before I decided to become debt free and never use credit again.

Now it is sold and we are using the money to pay off debt.

Have you made any purchases you thought were going to be beneficial, but you ended up kicking yourself for?

R U kidding? Let’s see, there’s the electric paint sprayer sitting on our shelf in the basement, numerous hair products (too many to mention and a fortune in and of themselves), the lettuce spinner(?), the Indian flute, the sit-up bench, need I continue? Luckily Good Shepherd thrift shop can benefit from our over buying!

or Craigslist and eBay!!! I have sold SO MANY things on these sites. I’ve even taken things back to the store such as a mosquito repeller (using high sounds) machine—almost $200, and 1 year later, Costco took it back!! I stay away from yard sales, too, or else I’d have to have one myself.
In any event, you can make money on your mistakes sometimes (like your bike, Nathaniel)

I sold my Yukon then took 1/2 the money and paid off debt. The other 1/2 paid cash for an 01 Excursion. I’m constantly driving a carload full of kids, so I need something that will haul more than just my own.

I’m down to driving once a week, but I’m still using more $ in gas than before. 44 gallon tank w/ 10 mpg. Hello? I’m going to sell it and pay cash for something smaller. Parents can just drive their own kids.

I bought a mule a couple of months ago for $300 in hopes to plow the garden (more self sufficiency), but I was mislead by the owner. The mule was much older and sicker than the seller led on. What a rip off. Anyone want a retired mule? We had to plow the garden this year w/ the tractor.

@Justin Rhodes wow! that is cool that you were going to purchase a mule to help with your work…but a total bummer it wasn’t up to the task.
is there a retirement community for mules? :)
