My Life Mix Pie

Dear Reader,
I have an exercise for you. The good news is you should be able to do this “exercise” without moving from your comfy chair. Today, you are going to slice up some pie-some life pie.
I came across this chart at My Dollar Plan. She is about to squeeze 100% of her time into 67% as 33% of the total is going to go to job time. When I saw the chart, being the strange organizational type that I am…I thought it looked fun. I wondered how my life would look. So, I worked up my own chart. I did not see what MDP used for her standard of time, so I chose one week (168 hours) since my weeks are pretty consistent. I broke down some of the categories a little further and included them as long they were at least 1%.

If I were to analyze this, I would say family time looks pretty important to this guy…and what do you know, it is! It is the largest category aside from the “mandatory” categories like sleep and work. I was surprised at how much time eating takes up. It may be a little inflated since that includes preparation time and I’m usually multitasking (something I’m trying to do less of) during all that anyway. I think 6% (or 10 hours) for my blog seemed a bit much considering it doesn’t pay. I do enjoy it though, and a lot of my “personal” time goes toward that. It has been in its beginning stages, so that may lessen as I get more efficient and the novelty wears off.
A few categories that didn’t make it into my pie that were suggested by MDP were Money (I have become fairly efficient at budgeting and now most of the time thinking about our finances is when I’m blogging), Business (I have no business of my own although I’m looking to creating some revenue through blogging), Leisure and Recreation (all that is done with family), and Friends and Community (that is pretty much all done at church right now).
There are a few slight adjustments I would like to make, but overall I am pretty happy with the current balance.
So I’m curious. How does your pie look?

Have you ever had that nagging feeling that there was something more to do with your life? I don’t remember exactly when it started for me...

nice pie :)
I’m really loving your posts. Very valuable. It definitely shows that you put a good amount of time into preparing. Nicely done. Loving the chart, by the way.
Scott – he’s a chart kinda guy ;)
Nate – love you :*
Great chart, glad to see so much time devoted to family. I also used a week (except I subtracted sleeping time). You have a great blog, if you wanted to move it off WordPress, you would be able to set up advertisers and generate some revenue:)
@ Christina – thanks. it tastes pretty good
@ Scott – thank you. I will try to keep them coming!
@ My Dollar Plan – thanks for the idea for the chart. Moving off a wordpress hosted blog is definitely part of the plan. Thank you for the tip.
